Jewellery made with love

There is a secret magic in jewellery.

Ask someone who hasn’t been feeling too upbeat of late. The right jewellery alone can uplift their spirits and make them feel chirpier.

Ask a little girl who received her first earrings.

Ask a college girl who stumbled upon the perfect necklace at an obscure flea market.

What takes that magic to the next level is the passion involved while making that jewellery. It is the passion that separates any jewellery and jewellery that is work of art.

And nothing blurs the line between jewellery and art like handcrafted jewellery.

For the uninitiated, a simple way of identifying handcrafted jewellery is one look and you will be staring at in wonder. Unlike ordinary jewellery, handcrafted jewellery is all about fine, intricate detailing, something that is impossible to replicate otherwise. It is that fine detailing and the countless hours put in by meticulous karigars staring at a tiny piece of jewellery that breathes new life into handmade jewellery.

Of late, handmade jewellery is back in trend. Any star-studded wedding you see, any celebrity you follow and any fashion magazine you subscribe to is bound to feature handmade jewellery. It is the talk of the town and what better time to buy some handcrafted jewellery than now!

Handcrafted jewellery has a class of its own. And isn’t it obvious? Usually, jewellery is made simply by making dyes of design and then pressing them onto the base metal and mass produced, which means there are a million pieces of exactly that same item out there.

You can also customize or personalize handcrafted jewellery as you want it. This means that you can own a piece of high-quality jewellery that no one in the world possesses apart from you. It also means you can come up with a design of your choice, get creative and own a highly personalized piece of jewellery.

Yes, the time taken from the jewellery’s design stage to holding it in your hands is much longer as compared to machine-made jewellery. But consider the quality of the product you have, consider the love, passion, time, patience and personal attention that has gone into it, consider the exclusivity of the piece of jewellery you hold in your hands. You will definitely trust that it was worth the wait.

There are many types of handmade jewellery. There’s Nakshi jewellery, where the artisan carves (Nakshi is Bengali for carving) a piece of gold into gods, goddesses, flowers or other characters from mythology. Because of the intricate carvings, preparing an item requires more time than other types of handmade jewellery. Most artisans specializing in Nakshi jewellery come from West Bengal.

Then there’s Filigree jewellery. In the Filigree art form, jewellery is made with tiny beads and twisted threads, giving it an enchanting look that is both traditional and modern. Filigree can be done on both gold and silver jewellery.

Owing to the use of gold and silver threads as thin as hair strands involved in this art form, the intricacy achieved through Filigree is next to none.

Another popular type of Indian handmade jewellery is Polki. In this art form, natural, unfinished diamonds are used to make the jewellery items. Introduced by the Mughals, Polki is known for its shiny diamonds owing to the fact that the diamonds are natural and unfinished. Kundan is a similar art form of making jewellery. Although, in this style, glass stone is used instead of diamonds and the art form is based in Rajasthan.

Jadau is a technique of embedding stones (diamonds or otherwise). There are very few skilled artisans who have mastered this technique, perhaps owing to the immaculate, precise work it demands. In this technique, gold is heated just enough to melt it to a certain degree. After that, the precious stones placed in it can adhere to the gold once it cools down.

Good karigars are highly sought after and there are very few of them around. Senco Gold & Diamonds has some of the best karigars who have been creating magic with their craftsmanship.

By buying handmade jewellery, you are supporting the small group of skilled artisans who specialize in this craft, the valuable art it represents and the centuries-old tradition. Isn’t that wonderful?

Thankfully, Senco Gold & Diamonds is proud to be associated with some of the most skilled and experienced craftsmen in this field. That is why Senco Gold & Diamonds is renowned for its handmade jewellery for over five decades now. The vision of this organisation is to become the most reputed brand promoting handcrafted products across the world, preserving art and creativity through its merchandise, and aiding the growth and happiness of all its stakeholders. The organization, which is also one of the largest jewellery retail chains of India, is driven by its vision and they strive to achieve it every single day even today.

Because the brand believes good jewellery is art.
