The scintillating beauty of solitaire diamonds has ruled millions of hearts all over the world for ages. Be it a marriage proposal or a gift to yourself with your earnings, no other beauty can ever replace an awestruck piece of diamond jewellery.
To assess the qualities and value of a diamond mined from anywhere in the world, It is important to determine its 4C’s, (Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat)which is a globally accepted grading scale developed by the GIA.
The cut is directly associated with its outward appeal. It generally describes the proportions and symmetrical facets of a diamond. A well-cut diamond with an ideal depth is more likely to reflect light.
One can easily choose the right diamond jewellery by evaluating its color gradation. And this color evaluation is determined by the colorlessness of diamonds. Diamonds with no hues at all are rare and thus expensive. For better understanding, this degree of colorlessness is measured on a scale ranging from ‘D’ (colorless) to ‘Z’ (light yellow tint).
As diamonds resulted from carbon atoms exposed to extreme heat and pressure deep inside the earth, they develop inclusions and blemishes. The closer to being free from inclusion, the better its clarity is.
Again the clarity is graded into six categories -
Fl- Flawless
IF- Internally flawless
VVS- Very very slightly included
VS- Very slightly included
S- Slightly included
I- Included
The last C of the 4C’s refers to the carat weight of the diamond which influences and decides the price of the diamond jewellery. Let’s put it simply, the heavier the weight, the higher the price. 1 carat of diamond weighs 200 milligrams and it is further subdivided into points (1 carat= 100 points). Diamonds weighing less than 1 carat are measured into points. Although the carat should not be confused with the size of the diamond as same-carat weight diamonds can vary in size due to the given cut or shape.
So, the 4C’s i.e., cut, color, clarity and carat when combined; determine a diamond’s quality and finalizes its value.
We strongly believe that actual craftsmanship starts with ideas and creativity which continues through to the creation of a breathtaking piece of diamond jewellery.
